Next to the I.O.O.F. Hall the second most
impressive building in this row is the Merchantile Store. It is the only
brick building in the block and was built to last the years.
It has a raised cement covered loading platform with stairs at each end
and access to both the main building and the wooden storage lean-to on

This is the only building in the block without
either a canopy covered entry or a wooden sidewalk although it does have
stairs an a wood platform to line up with the wood sidewalk next door.
The wooden storage building attached on this side has a large sliding
freight door so crates, barrels and drums can be easily placed inside.
The kit allows for the building footprint to easily be reversed.
The wooden storage building has no window but
does have a smaller rear entrance door. With this and the freight door
on the front both open in the summer time the building can be cooled as
flammable items are stored out here such as kerosene, dynamite sticks,
There really isn't a second floor in the
Merchantile Store but a small loft at the rear. Nor is there a rear
entrance to the main building for security reasons as lumbering, mining
and such tools and equipment was stored inside.
As with other merchandising
stores there are no side windows on the Merchantile Store as those walls
are needed for the display of merchandise inside.
The bulky size of the
Merchantile Store is evident in this overhead view. Built around
1915 after it's predecessor was burnt to the ground the year before in a
rather suspicious fire.
This will be the sixth
kit released in the series.
