HARDWARE EMPORIUM:

The Hardware Emporium is a single floor building with a open loft area for storage of merchandise out of season or too large to have all in stock on the first floor. This is a basic wood building with a board and baton exterior and a high false front giving the impression of a larger building. It is also built on a narrow lot so it is long.

Due to the nature of the business this building was built for and the expectation of other buildings being built close there are no windows down the sides. Like almost all the other buildings along this row the Hardware Emporium has a canopy over the wooden sidewalk.

As with many of the other buildings this one also has rear windows on the second floor. There is a large double rear entry door to facilitate access for large crates and big merchandise. There is also a unheated general storage area on the back for empty crates, trash and other such junk.

There is a cover over the rear entrance door  and a wooden stoop.

The second floor loft area has widows on this side for ventilation but non on the first floor as that area, like the opposite wall, was needed for display of merchandise.

The Hardware Emporium has a single wood burning pot bellied stove typical of the day. This building was built around 1905.
